Remodeling on the cheap

August 18th, 2010 at 02:21 pm

Let me start by saying my kitchen is awful. Circa 1981. I really need new cabinets, countertops, and floor. Appliances would be nice too. Smile

Okay, back to reality...

I have been researching the internet on how to paint the laminate. There are several kits that can be ordered online, but i just bought the supplies at my local big box store. I applied the primer, and hubby helped paint to mimic granite. I was scared starting out, but really couldn't get any worse than what we had. We are pretty happy with the results so far. We are waiting for the paints to cure, then I will poly. Spent $46.00 so far on counter paint. I want to keep track of my spending as I want to keep whole remodel under $500 including the floor and light fixtures.
Next we are going to paint the ugly 4" white tile backslash to mimic limestone. Still need to do more research on that.

Everyone have a great day!

Pictures pretty please? I have white laminate counters and horrible cabinets. I would love to try something like this.

Me three!! Horrible white laminate counters and the cabinets aren't horrid, but could use another coat of sealer or something to bring the wood-grain back to a sparkling hue.
